Some conversations are more important than others and it can help you in the future if you record them. You can find many programs for recording the sound on your system, but you will have to be ready to click that Record button when the conversation starts. If you are not fast enough, you risk missing important parts of the conversation. G-Recorder Professional is designed specifically for recording Skype conversations. The process will start immediately when you engage in a conversation and it will store the recordings automatically on your hard drive and your mailbox.

The application can be installed on any machine, powered by Windows XP, Vista or Win 7, MAC OS Snow Leopard or Lion. The setup process is fast and you won't have to make any advanced settings along the way. A few basic configurations can be made once the program is installed on your computer.

G-Recorder's .exe file launches a wizard which will help you make the initial configurations. You can opt to record and export your Skype conversations to your mailbox, your PC or both. You may also adjust the software's behavior when a conversation starts. It will record automatically, prompt you first or you can do it manually. G-Recorder may ask you to add call notes when a conversation ends, if you tick this option during one of the wizard's stages. If the computer is idle for a given amount of time, the software will save the chat in your mailbox automatically and it will forward it to an email address if you specify one.

The final step is to select your mail server and specify your username. G-Recorder supports Gmail, Google Apps, Yahoo and AOL, but you can also define any other mail server. Alternatively, you may choose the Offline option to save the recording only on your hard drive. You may type in your password on the interface or select an option to authenticate in your default web browser. The software does not contain any spyware. Regardless if you type your password or not, your log in details will remain secure.

Once the configurations are complete, you can use Skype as usual. You will not encounter additional buttons or toolbars. G-Recorder will run in the system tray and when you call someone or someone calls you, the program will start recording immediately or it will prompt you first, depending on your settings. The recording will be saved as MP3 files in a folder of your choosing. If you associate the software with an email account, G-Recorder will create a new section in your mailbox, where you can find the recordings.

Pros

Configuring the software is not a difficult task. It is sufficient to make the necessary settings only once and you will not have to interact with the program again. It can record and store your conversations automatically.

Cons

The free version has a few limitations, but when it comes to the software's functionality, there is nothing to complain about. G-Recorder Professional will work in the system tray at all times and it will record all your conversations, without prompting you for anything. Due to its user friendly design, you can make the initial configurations, without needing advanced knowledge.
